Brightest Near the End

Like so many people, fall is my favorite season. I love the feel of a warm sweater when temperatures turn brisk. I love that I don't have to do yardwork anymore, or sweat for that matter. But most of all I love the color of the leaves on the trees; the vibrant reds, the breathtaking oranges, and the spectacular yellows. And I realized leaves are the most beautiful near the end of their lives. When I did a Google search, I found this, 'Fall Colors: Leaves change color from green to yellow, orange, red, and finally brown. The leaves' true colors are revealed when chlorophyll production stops.'

It reminded me of a devotional I was blessed to hear from the Pastor of my former church. It was given to a Seniors group and it was on finishing well. He gave several examples in scripture of good Kings that finished poorly and then gave some principles and spiritual practices that could be used to ensure we finish well. But it was this statement that stuck with me. He asked, "Do you realize this could be the best time of your spiritual life?" Throughout our lives, we go through different seasons, most full of busyness and distractions. Then we reach the latter years. For most of us, we have more time. And if we choose to, we can use that time to draw nearer to the Lord and allow Him to show us who He made us to be, our true colors. And when the light of our Savior shines through us, we will be vibrant, breathtaking, and spectacular to a lost world, drawing their attention to our magnificent Creator
